BEN TYE - position unknown

Ben joined Plough Eaton Bray in 2000 when the club was first formed, and he has been a significant part of the squad ever since.

Ben got to know a lot his fellow players during youth football when he played alongside the likes of Andrew Hillier, Rob Johnstone and Mark Colleran for Edlesborough Gliders. Enjoying limited success with the club, Ben took early retirement from the game at the age of 16! He was dragged from the footballing wilderness when the Plough eaton Bray FC was formed by Mick Loasby and his former team mates got in touch. He became first choice right back in his first season chipping in with some vital goals along the way including a superb diving header against Houghton Athletic in the semi final of the Division 4 cup.

During his second season with the Plough, Ben found himself playing almost in every position possible. Although he was always seen as a natural defender, he put in some excellent performances in midfield whilst covering for injuries and suspensions. Once again it was recognised that he had the attribute of scoring very important goals for the club.

Ben found last season (2002-03) to be his best season yet for the Plough and he would be the first person to admit how surprised he was with his performances. He started the season again as first choice right back, but he was struggling to find his true form. When Jason Faloone left the side in October, it left teh Plough struggling to find a regular goalkeeper. With goalkeeping experience behind him, Ben offered to play in goal. Nobody could have predicted how well he was to play for the remainder of the season. Ben was part of the team that had the best defensive record in the league, and his saves were one of the main reasons for this.

If Ben thought he would start the new season in a settled position, then he thought wrong as there are plans to try to bring in a new goalkeeper to allow him to play back on pitch. Ben has a lot of respect amongst his fellow players as he is very commited to the club as will always offer to help out when asked. Although he did offer to be the club secretary for the coming season, the club thought it was best to turn down his offer as he is known to be forgetful! If there are any boots or clothes left in the changing rooms at the end of a game, you can bet that they are his!

Ben has become an adopted member of the village as he is not only playing football for the Plough, but he also plays cricket for Edlesborough. Although he now lives in Luton, Ben will always be thought of as one of the village lads.
