ROB JOHNSTONE - midfielder

Rob Johnstone was one of the founder members of the club back in the summer of 2000 and has steadily risen up the ranks and become a very important person in the club.

Having been apart of the village youth side - Edlesborough Gliders, Rob knew the majority of the lads before he started playing with them at the Plough. Along with a few others, he found the step up to mens football a bit difficult at first as the game was much more physical than he was used to. However, the more and more games that he played, the better he got and the confidence grew.

Rob is a very versitile player having played a number of different positions for the club over the last 3 seasons. He is a good passer of the ball and enjoys the ball at his feet - the tackling side of his game has improved although he still struggles in the air which is surprising for someone of his height.

Rob has been the secretary of the club for the last year and was rewarded for his dedication to the club at this years presentation evening when he was awarded Clubman of the Year - an honor he shared with his brother Dan Johnstone.

Rob started the 2000/01 season as first choice left back and although played within himself in this position, many felt that his lack of pace sometimes went against him. Manager Mick Loasby tried him at left midfield and he seemed to flourish with his ability to deliver quality crosses from wide areas. However, by next season Rob was playing back in defence again whether it was right or left back. He managed to pick up his form this time around as he had improved defensively and manager Steve Loasby played a style of football where the full backs got the ball more and got involved in attacking plays much more.

Rob was made captain for the last 8 games of the season when Lee Loasby struggled with injuries and suspensions. The Plough only dropped 4 points in those 8 games and he has kept the armband for this season. Rob will hope that he can lead the side to promotion this season in a league that looks very tough with a number of teams looking for those two promotion spots.
